Pizza

My partner for this month’s T&C Challenge is Arundathi from My Food Blog. I was so torn between her samosas and the pizza recipe. I finally decided with the pizza recipe but, silly silly me forgot to get dried yeast. Argh! I went ahead anyway and substitute yeast with baking soda. Well, and a few more items. I don’t know what it’s suppose to be like, but for a first attempt (there are many first attempts on this blog) it’s not bad. I’d be sure to re-do this again, properly, only on a later date.
I’ve been reading French Women Don’t Get Fat by Mireille Guiliano and one of the things I’m most inspired by is to now do my shopping at fresh food markets.
The basil topping on the pizza did a marvelous job in bringing all the flavours together. It was fresh, aromatic and delicious. We kept things simple. Tomato-based sauce, sliced ham, shredded basil and cheese. It was a delightful Saturday lunch.
Mr. G helped with the kneading. Kneading need knuckles. And since the man’s at home, I’m making him work for his food.
Mr. G travels a lot for work so we spend as much time together as we can. Cooking together is a great couple activity – so this is a little relationship tip for anyone who’s interested. I could see that Mr. G was enjoying himself because he started throwing the dough in the air like a ball. I’m glad he has never failed to catch it.
Perfect Pizza (click here for Arundathi’s original recipe)
- 1 1/2 cup self-raising flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp dried herbs of choice (basil’s great!)
- 1/2 tsp lemon juice (to activate the alkaline in the baking soda)
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 220C.
- Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the olive oil and water and combine to form a ball.
- Knead just until it forms a smooth dough.
- Divide the dough into half.
- Roll out the dough on baking paper till required thickness.
