Paris – The City of Lights (Part II)

On our second day of our Paris weekend tour, we spent the morning at Louvre. For two hours we, literally, lost ourselves in the biggest museum in Europe (and possible, the world). The size of it will just awe you. There are no words to express the magnanimity of the collection in Louvre. It would be impossible for us to finish it in several hours, so we made a beeline to one of the most famous and talked about painting in the world: the Mona Lisa.

We were starved once we left Louvre (we nearly panicked when after about twenty exit signs, we still couldn’t find our way out). So we stopped by a local restaurant and sat down and ordered an omelet and french onion soup. What a feast! The soup was topped with crusty baguette and a generous serve of melted cheese. The soup was delicious … but being Asian, I sprinkled more black pepper into it for an extra ‘kick’ – the perfect weapon for a chilly winter day.

After lunch, we crossed Pont Neuf towards the Sainte Chapelle. Much of the chapel is a recreation, and only two-thirds of it is authentic. Parts of it were destroyed during the French Revolution. Still, the Ste. Chapelle is a breath-taking monument in Paris that must be seen in person. Be warned that tripods and flash photography are not allowed or you’ll have the guard shouting at you in a string of angry French words.

In my next post, I’ll talk about our visit to Notre Dame, the enchanting Basilique Sacré-Coeur and our divine French dinner. Till then, au revoir!
